SYNOPSIS
Benny (PETER MORGAN) and Wes (SANTIAGO MALLAN, MARRIAGE STORY (2019)) sit in their caRs outside the bank. Wes is focused on the job while Benny is focused on something more pressing...his tinder date. Wes gives benny a pep talk about how this is their chance to change everything in their shitty lives, and Benny gives in.
Benny and Wes burst through the doors of the bank only for benny to discover that the teller is the tinder date, Kathryn (Mercedes Paupulaire), from the night before. While Wes goes to unlock the safe, Benny pulls kathryn aside. He tells her that he had no idea that she worked at this baNk specifically, but Kathryn doesn't buy it. She's done with him.
Heartbroken, Benny tells wes that he can't finish out with the job. Wes gets benny to focus, yet again. As they begin to leave with the cash, Wes gets shot by an elderly patron of the bank. Benny must choose to escape with his best friend or turn himself in to the authorities to fix all of his wrongdoings.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
I HAD A GREAT TIME LAST NIGHT captures the feeling that most twenty-something-year-olds experience once they enter "the real world." This need to find the perfect job and the perfect family soon after graduating college is drowning young adults in their day-to-day life. when we find our main characters Benny and Wes, they've said, "enough is enough" and go to do something about it.
The film is also insanely personal to me as it contains real-life conversations I had at the start of my current relationship. The film just takes those conversations to the next level and inserts a heist plot. Overall, however, the film is a romantic comedy at its core. It's about the relationship between Benny and Kathryn and the "will-they-won't-they" nature of it due to the circumstances occurring in the film.
What the film says, in my eyes, is that it's okay to not have everything figured out at twenty-something-years-of-age. All will fall in place if you just let it. Our main characters didn't let it and chose to climb to the extreme in order to get there. This is something that I'm still learning in my day-to-day, which is why this film is so personal to me. I hope that everyone enjoys the film and can get something from the misadventures of Benny and Wes.
